ANNOUNCEMENT 23rd April 2020

Dear Riders,

The world and our lives have been upended. Today we should have been arriving at Landsborough for the commencement of the 10 Day Ride.  There would have been tremendous anticipation regarding the days and nights ahead, and tonight we would have descended upon the local hotel for dinner and I guess too much of everything liquid.

Instead, we find ourselves isolated in our homes with a pandemic upon the world, and its impact not being out of place in a science fiction movie.   How quickly and dramatically life can, and has changed.

On a happier footing, I can report that next year's ride will be replicating what was to take place this year.  Easter Sunday in 2021 falls on the 4th of April and we are aiming to commence the ride at Landsborough on Thursday the 8th of April and conclude Sunday the 18th at Dunolly.

Thank you to all those who have allowed us to hold your funds. I can report that most of the monies expended were recovered or bookings carried over.  In the event that you don’t register for next year's ride, you will receive a refund of $150 per rider.

I expect to open up registrations of interest in the November period for the ride next year.  I also anticipate there will be a further ride fee required as the insurance cost will increase as the level of liability insurance cover has doubled, to meet the new risk standards of councils and state government park authorities.

We are well placed to kick the ride off in style next year with a lot of hardware and promotional items already on hand, 200 caps, 200 metal coffee mugs, plus raffle prizes including 2 camp fridges, swags and gift vouchers supplied by BCF.  Thank you BCF.

I’m sure we will add to the itinerary further and deliver a better experience for us all in April 2021 at the 10 Day Ride. Hopefully, COVID-19  will be part of history by then but never forgotten, and those lost always remembered in our prayers.

Thank you for your support and encouragement when we had to cancel the ride and please take care of yourself.  See you in 2021 at Landsborough Vic.

John Brady

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT 20th March 2020

Dear 2020 Ride Participants,

Following the communication that was sent last week regarding the COVID 19 Virus, there have been new and ongoing developments, Government announcements and advice.  Unfortunately, based on these and the growing uncertainty around the ability to continue this year's ride, we have decided it is in everyone's best interests and socially responsible to cancel the ride this year.

I want to thank you all for putting forward your suggestions has to how the ride could continue and whether it should be cancelled, but ultimately it came down to what's the prudent and responsible course of action, in addition to providing as much notice as possible to you all of the decision.

Please note it pains me to announce this, it was not an easy decision, but with all things considered it must be done.

In the coming days, we will organise and communicate the decision around refunds for the ride, etc.  Our immediate task is to notify all parties who were involved in providing services for the ride, that they are no longer required. It is a long list.

We will also need to negotiate a credit for the Public Liability Insurance coverage and will try our best to coordinate that our permits to ride in the state parks this year can be rolled over to next year.

We are unsure what you all as participants of this year's ride, will want to see occur for next year's ride in terms of destination and are open to you providing feedback.  There is potential to roll over this year's ride to next year. You are welcome and encouraged to let us know your thoughts.

Insanely, I am ready to be the host and reset this ride again next year.  I feel there is a responsibility to the towns and community groups who were willing to support us this year and that we could commit to supporting them by holding the 2021 ride in the same planned capacity.

I'd like to express my thanks to Gail Pattison and Sonya Richards-Stuart for the lead-up work they have undertaken in setting our tracks for the ride legs.  Finally, there's the hours, days and weeks of work, which Jess English put into the Ride's administration and continual refinement, it has been exceptional what you've done Jess and all of us owe you a big thank you.

I will provide further communication to everyone once we have gained some feedback and resolved the outstanding issues we have from cancelling the ride.

You've got to roll with the punches!

If you know someone attending who does not have access to emails, Facebook or our website, please pass on this message.

Regards,

John Brady

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT 16th March 2020

A note from Ride Coordinator John Brady:

We would like to address the growing concern around the Corona Virus and its impact on this year’s upcoming ride.

Following the days after the Ride Itinerary was released, many ride attendees have contacted me asking for updates and expressing their heightened concerns as to how the virus will unfold over the next 6 weeks leading up to the ride.

At the time of writing, I am unsure whether the ride can proceed due to several factors which could eventuate in the coming days and weeks.

My current advice to you all is that the ride has not yet been cancelled, however, this decision will need to be continually revisited as things develop and more advice is given from authorities.  Further to this, it is also dependent on a number of community directives for each town we are utilizing for the ride.

Whilst it is disappointing, I want all attendees to understand that cancelling the ride may well be a possibility.  We will report to you as soon as possible if the ride will be cancelled.

In closing, I am very sorry to write and alarm you about this, from my own perspective it is terribly deflating to have gotten to this point with everything organised and to have to confront the possibility of the ride not proceeding when we are so close.  At the end of the day, we must weigh up all public health risks, government advice and changes, and the availability of the services we need to conduct the ride, as they might not be available.

Please continue to return your feed order and meal order forms at this stage.  We will provide any updates about the ride as soon as possible.

ANNOUNCEMENT 4th June 19

Riders,

Firstly, thank you all for the keen interest you have all shown in next year’s Prospector’s Ride – it is great to see so many people, new and old, offer to volunteer to help support such a great ride.

We have experienced a flood of Expression Of Interest forms over the last 2 months and would like to advise we have already reached our expected Rider capacity of 150. Please note, however, not all EOI’s result in registrations so if you are interested you should continue to send your EOI’s through to us, as spots may become available due to withdrawals or capacity being able to be increased.

We will contact you if spots become available in the coming months when registrations are complete.

For those who have provided your EOI’s we thank you for your comments and will take them all into consideration when planning and costing the itinerary.

As always thanks for your continued support.

Kind Regards,

John Brady

Initial Ride Details

Next year's ride be for horse riders and also cater for horse drawn carts.  The event will be held within the  Victorian regional area known as the Golden Triangle, located in central/west of Victoria, in the heart of gold mining country of the last century.  The locality is at the southern end of the Great Dividing Ranges and encompasses an area of 9,400 square kilometres.

The township of Landsborough and Moonambel where we will spend the first and second stages of the ride are in the shadows of the Pyrenees Ranges, with beautiful scenery and well known for their local wineries.  The final stage of the ride will take us to Dunolly, where the history of Gold mining is very evident and at Moliagul the Welcome Stranger Gold nugget was found in 1869 weighing 66kg, which at the time was the biggest in the world.

On the basis of the ride's location and historical recognition of the past, we have given this year's 10DayRide the title of "The Prospector's Ride" in recognition of the many hopeful souls who tramped across this countryside in hope of finding their fortune.  We will have the luxury of doing it on horseback.

Rides will vary between 18-28kms per day with plenty of bush tracks on offer.  You will need to be self-sufficient for you and your horse for most of the ride.

Daily morning musters will be held to communicate the day's events with raffles, sausage sizzles, dinner dance and many other activities being held throughout the event, all of which you will be further detailed on the itinerary.  We also have a few surprises this year to be announced closer to the event. Further, the townships have some great country hotels which we will frequent throughout the ride.

If you are interested in participating in The Prospectors Ride in 2020, please download and return the following "Expression of Interest" form. Please note, this year there are limited numbers, so return your form as soon as possible.
